The future of logistics in Swabia

International enterprises such as Clariant, EADS, Fujitsu Siemens, KUKA, MAN, Osram, SGL Carbon, UPM, the Weltbild publishing group as well as many small and medium-sized businesses appreciate the benefits of the region. The industrial location is particularly strong in such areas as mechatronics, automation as well as environmental engineering, communication and fibre composite technologies.

The Augsburg region GVZ freight village, located within the triangle between the cities of Augsburg, Gersthofen and Neusäß in Southern Germany, is growing into an attractive location for logistics real estate and efficient transport services. Transport and logistics companies as well as other service providers and logistics-intensive companies find ideal conditions here for their regional, national and international goods traffic.

Thanks to its central location on railway lines and motorway junctions, the Augsburg region GVZ has an important role to play as:

  • a freight hub for the Swabia region
  • a gateway to transalpine traffic
  • a point of access to the southern/eastern European corridor
  • an ideal hinterland connection for seaport traffic.

The federal transport ministry, the Free State of Bavaria, the Deutsche Bahn AG (German Rail), the cities of Augsburg, Gersthofen and Neusäß, the Chamber of Commerce for Augsburg and Swabia as well as many other bodies and companies support the Augsburg region GVZ freight village.

The high logistics potential was confirmed by the study “Logistics real estate in Germany. Market and locations”. The Fraunhofer Institute’s working group for technologies of the logistics services industry ATL in Nuremburg places Swabia, with its Augsburg and Ulm hubs, amongst the top 18 logistics regions in Germany.
