Beneficial to the region
Smooth and efficient freight traffic strengthens the national and international competitiveness of a region. Which is why the cities of Augsburg, Gersthofen and Neusäß have created a state-of-the-art freight village which
- relieves people and the environment from heavy traffic,
- secures the future of existing companies,
- promotes the establishment of new businesses,
- and creates new jobs in the region.
To reach these goals, the Augsburg region GVZ makes use of a bimodal terminal on the interface between important road and railway connections. It optimises traffic in a way that is both city- and environmentally-friendly by
- shifting long-distance freight traffic from road to rail,
- multiplexing truck trips in the regional and city traffic through co-operations,
- making better use of individual trips while avoiding empty or double runs,
- and promoting synergy effects through joint services.
